How often should a standby generator be serviced?
Follow the manufacturer's schedule for your model; many home standby generators call for service at least once a year, and more often with heavy run time. A maintenance plan keeps the oil, filters, battery and controller checked.
Why won't my standby generator start?
Common causes include a weak or dead battery, a fault code on the controller, low oil shutdown, fuel supply problems, or the unit being left in the off or manual position. Note any error code and call a technician.
What size generator do I need for my house?
It depends on what you want to run during an outage (whole home or essentials like the well pump, HVAC and refrigerator), your electrical service and your fuel source. A site visit is the reliable way to size it; load shedding can let a smaller unit handle large loads.
What is an automatic transfer switch?
An automatic transfer switch senses when utility power is lost, starts the standby generator and switches your home or business over to generator power, then switches back when utility power returns.
Can I monitor my generator from my phone?
Yes, with remote monitoring. TMR Generators can set up monitoring so you can see the generator's status and get alerts.
Does TMR Generators service generators it didn't install?
Yes. TMR Generators services and repairs standby generators for homes and businesses, including units installed by others.
How long has TMR Generators been in business?
TMR Generators opened in February 2015 and is owned by Wade McMillan.
Is it safe to run a portable generator in the garage?
No. Never run a portable generator indoors, in a garage, or near windows and doors, because of carbon monoxide. A permanently installed standby generator is placed outside to code.
